How to Use Astrogeography to Travel and Move

Astrogeography is this thing that has generated some buzz in the spiritual community in the past few years; but there’s not much information about it. I was first introduced to the concept a few years ago when I was dipping my toes into astrology. It was baffling that there’s a tool you can use, to see what energy to expect in different places throughout the world. I immediately pulled up my chart, looked at all the places I have lived, loved, or felt called to: Kentucky, Leuven, Baltimore, California, Mexico, the list goes on.

My First Experience With Astrogeography

To my surprise, all of the places that I’ve lived in or felt extremely called to, have lines through or near them. How can I explain the fact that when I was 17, I went to Los Angeles for the first time and immediately felt at home. Despite everyone telling me, “Nikki, LA is the worst. You don’t want to live there”. There is something in my soul that knew, before I knew anything about astrology or astrogeography, that LA was special. Turns out, one of my Mercury lines runs straight through the middle of Southern California. When I found that out, it’s as if a lifelong question had been answered. That makes so much sense, I thought.

As I began studying astrology more diligently, I knew I was heading in the direction of astrogeography as a specialization. How empowering is it to learn the places in the world that are most supportive for you?! You can get specific and look for places that are supportive in settling down and having a family, or for career and fame, or spiritual enlightenment. If you want to have a steamy, passionate romance, there’s a line for that too.

What Is Astrogeography?

Astrogeography, also known as astrocartography, places your natal chart on a map of the world. Technically speaking, it’s the study of how planetary energies affect different places throughout the world.

If you know anything about astrology or planetary energies, each planet has a different and distinct energy. For example, the Sun is all about fame, being seen, creativity, and self esteem. While the Moon taps into the feminine and is connected to mothering, nurturing, intuition, and emotions. These lines, based on the angle and planet, can give us insight into what to expect, what to focus your energy on, or whether it is challenging or supportive to be in that place.

It’s empowering to know that not every place is meant for us. There are just some places that we just do feel more at home. As a traveler, and someone who is on a mission to find my soul’s happy place, astrogeography is guiding me towards the life that I want to live. If I want to deepen my spirituality or do a planet medicine ceremony, I might travel to my Neptune IC line. Whereas, with my Virgo North Node, my Mercury (hello Southern CA), will likely be where I want to live permanently.

How Intuition Plays Into The Equation

Although you can use astrogeography to guide your travel or relocation plans, I always say to listen to your intuition first. If you are called to a place, go there regardless of what your chart tells you. While there may be “challenging” energies, that could be what you soul needs at this point in your life. Astrogeography can guide you but you must listen to your intuition above all else. If a place doesn’t feel good, honor and trust that and know that these energies play out differently for everyone.

Bring In The Energy without Travel

Another thing I love about this tool is you can harness this energy without leaving your house. My teacher, Dara Dubinet, uses the example of having lines through Morocco and bringing in that energy into her home in Venice through decorating with Moroccan pillows and tapestries. You can bring in the energy of these places, and the planets, through your phone background, what you eat, how you dress, how you decorate.

Especially in today’s world, with travel on the back burner. I think it is so incredible to know that you can intentionally bring in the energy you want; simply through the music you listen to or simply talking to a friend that is from that place.

Astrogeography has been a game changer for me and I do believe it is the future. I love astrology as a tool to get to know yourself deeper; but astrogeography has given me so much clarity in the decision fatigue I often feel in relation to travel and where to ground down. I want to share this tool with the world and I would love to share it with you.

You can sign up for a 1:1 reading with me, here. Astrology doesn’t have to be complicated. I hope to shed light to the language of the stars; giving you greater clarity, ease, and alignment in your life. Excited for this new chapter!
